I saw the “Letter to my 13 y.o Self” post on many bloggers’ RSS feeds. I’ve decided to write to my 16 y.o Self just to make it different and also because at 13 I was just special; I was a little awkward and sheltered kinda like a slice of bread but at 16…WOW!! I was a slice of hot spicy pizza. Ignore the pun.
That said and done, let’s start.

Sex is overrated. Yeah, you talk about it with your little friends in school but….it’s not all it’s cracked up to be. Focus on getting good grades coz sex won’t get you what you want in life. Your type A personality won’t even give you the peace of mind to enjoy it anyway. You’ll always be dissecting and overthinking things from beginning to end. Sare hio stori. That said and done, someone will pop yer cherry before you’re legal.
It’s all downhill from there btw. You’ll climb into the deepest, darkest abyss and face different monsters; depression, suicide, recklessness, sex, alcohol, bad relationships and bad boys.
In the same vein, you’ll climb out of that abyss a little bit insane but very much intact as a human being.
Daddy is gonna die at the hardest time of your life and he’s gonna leave the family and you, in particular, in a lurch. Death will take it’s time in coming (BEEEEECCH) but in the end you’ll be just fine. Stop waiting for someone to fix your life for you. That’s why it’s your life, nitwit.
You will be threatened with physical and sexual assault severally by people you know and shouldn’t really care for but still do anyway. One guy will get close enough to try; forget him. Karma will deal with him. Two of your close friends will be raped. One will die of sadness and another will move past her assault and blossom into an awesome but sometimes superficial friend. Do not judge her. Walk in her shoes first.
You’re shy now but you will grow into your own soon enough. You’ll be bold, abrasive, outspoken and free spirited, as well as determined and happy. Many women won’t like you but don’t let it bother you, there’s no pleasing some people.
You hate roots reggae right now but it’ll grow on you in a few years time. the message is in the music. Listen to the music.
You’re dream of being a journalist will never really happen. You’ll start a blog but it won’t be the same. You’ll just be writing a large public online diary.
Many people will work hard to put you down, for reasons best known to them; show them the finger (metaphorically, little fool) and move. No one matters more than you do. What you think about yourself is the most important. Remember that.
Be courageous in changing the world around you; accept that which you cannot and don’t let it bother you anymore.
Be open minded; life is never going to be black and white. it’s going to be vibrant and sometimes that won’t be good for you.
You’re impatient and headstrong; you need to balance those out or live with the repercussions.
All in all you’re a smashing human being. Be proud in Jah you do not believe in reincarnations otherwise you’d end as positively asinine.
